ANNUAL PUNK ALL DAYERS

GIG REVIEW  2008

(the better late than never)

REVIEW

REMEMBER CHERNNOBYL BENEFIT PUNK GIGS
3 years and still going strong!

Raising funds for Chernobyl Children Lifeline UK Reg: 1014274

(To help children suffering from the affter effects of the Chernobyl disaster & economic situation)

For 2008, (thanks to Jim Threat for putting the idea in my head!) we tried a different type of fundraiser in addition to the Punk All Dayers, entitled Punk Stars In Yer Eyes in an effort to maintain interest in the events and raise more funds for the charity.
The idea behind this was to have a ‘fun night’ with individuals or bands taking part and attempt to act out their favourite ‘punk star’ and song and have a good old laugh with the prospect of winning themselves some money & booze for their efforts.

Sadly though, as good an idea as it was, come the actual night of the event participants were low but nonetheless a good night with plenty of laughs and mayhem was had by all!

So a BIG THANKS to SNIFFIN GLUE who without their musical talents (and help setting up!!) the show would not have happened!

Thanks to Lorriane, Marie & Callum for being the judges on the night

& Cinders for being the compare

And finally, a big thanks to those brave individuals who took part

Kate for her rendition of Joey Ramone’s Comanndo

Baz who done both Toxik Ephex’s Playing With Fire & another song which I can’t quite remember right now! haha

Dogs Abuse for their Total Chaos tribute

Mr Gemmel for taking on Chron Gen’s Outlaw

Brad & chum for The Macc Lads Fluffy Pup!

Myself, for a somewhat dodgy attempt at X-Ray Spex's Germ Free Adolescents

Plus one or 2 others who took part on the night with 2nd przie winner (don’t know the guys name!) doing The Dead Kennedy’s Too Drunk To Fuck

But the overall Punk Star winner of the night was:

Graeme for his winning entry with The Dickies Poodle Party

The annual REMEMBER CHERNOBYL PUNK ALL DAYERS took place on

 Sat 3rd AND Sun 4th May 2008

at THE ATTIC, Dundas St Glasgow

a great time was had but in true DIY style things didn't exactly run smoothly in regards to the 'running' side of things with some of the gear turning up late, so the day didn't get off to the best start leaving bands running late on the Sat which sadly meant The Threats were unable to play due to other commitments

so with that my humblest apologies go out to THE THREATS

but nontheless the gigs were a great success & raised over £1000 for the charity (see www.myspace.com/rememberchernobyl for more info)

A big thanks to EVERYONE who came along and made it a great 2 days and to ALL the bands as always, for putting on such great performances!

Our condolences to the guys form Contempt and likewise to family & friends of Trogg who sadly passed away

The highlights of the weekend, for me anyway, was getting to meet the guys from Active Slaughter and finally seeing them play! Great bunch of guys and top band!

Jessie, Eastfiled, for doing his solo set on Sunday - Brilliant stuff

The Gin Goblins for finally being able to play! yaahayy!

and of course, The Happy Spastics! It's truly great to see the guys back in action!

Thanks to Paddy for filming the gig, just hope he wasnt too drunk and ended up getting some nice footage of the floor!  hehee

Ellen for her sterling work at the door and again to Ellen and Baz for putting us up over the weekend and for the lovely cheese and onion toasties for breakfast!

Marie and Nicola for the smooth running of the tambola stall and the help recieved from Marie and Cinders in the run up to the gig!

The guys from Defiant Pose for helping me out at such short notice on Sunday with Amps and stuff .. a top bunch of guys and a great set so 3 cheers for them!!!

Watty and the chaps from Constant Fear for helping me out yet again!

Scalesy from Afterbirth and Keela for selling various Tshirts, LPs n stuff that they've been gathering over the years and donating the money from that to the Charity! Apprecaited!

There is, as always, probably a few more folk i should be thanking at the moment but as per, my memory isnt at its best

The venue owners were brilliant! They had loads of hassle in regards to late license application and police popping in and out, mainly on Sat tyring to get the gig shut down cos people were jumping around? Eh?!!!

so as always NO thanks whatsoever to Strathclyde's finest(?)!!!

2009's gigs are already booked, we're back at The Attic on Sat 2nd and Sun 3rd May and i've already got some ideas of bands i want to play

unfort i have very few pics from the gigs to show on here, there is a DVD of both days but alas poor venue lighting meant the bands playing at night are barely visable so i'm not going to officialy release it

anyone wanting a copy get in touch and i'll send you a copy for say, £2 donation?

fear not, 2009's gigs ARE going to run much smoother   LoL
