Our experiences as a host family - 2

Kids Visit July - Aug 2006

The next 2 kids we hosted arrived on Wed 26th July for 4 weeks.  They were another 2 boys, this time ages 11 & 12 - they are both from Osopovichi, in the Mogilev region of Belarus.

Kiryl is 11 yrs old & described as kind, open minded & friendly. He likes maths, football, music & loves to sing

Kiryl & Kookie

Aliaksei is 12 & described as active yet shy, likes motorcycling, collects toy cars, loves to draw & ride a bike. But, in his notes he was described as being afraid of dogs!

Thank god that didn't turn out to be true cos we've got 2 of the stupidest, noisiest dogs around!!

Aliaksei & Gruff

Not a great deal I can say about this visit in contrast with the last 2 kids we hosted. The boys were alot more chatty on the way home when they first arrived & again, settled in really well.

I was certainly glad to see that their appetites were alot more healthy compared to Sergie & Stas, but then they were a lot younger & wouldn't dream putting a bit o' veg near their mouths!

Only one complaint(?) & that was that no-one warned me what I was about to take on with two pre-teenage boys!  Don't get me wrong, they were good kids but phew, what a handful they were compared to the 7 & 8 yr olds!!  lol

A day at Loudon Castle Theme park & Circus

A visit to Edinburgh Castle, complete with silly tartan hats

Trip to Kilmarnock Fire Station - Kiryl

Not to feel left out I get a wee shot of a fireman's helmet

these 2 photos were taken on the eve of Sun 30th July down on the beach below Culzean Castle, nr Maybole, Ayrshire, here in Bonny Scotland.

Didn't think anything of it as it was just a 'normal?' day scrabbling our way along a rocky shore & exploring the caves below - it wasn't until I got the photos back from the shop that I noticed something weird in the photo taken inside one of the caves!

You can see for yourself it's all a bit blurred BUT there is definatley something, or should I say SOMEONE strange in the background - note the guy with the white shirt & tartan sash - could it be the legendary piper who haunts the caves below the castle?

MMMmmm.....???

Sadly, now that I'm  back working again we won't be able to host any more kids for a while

basically, you've got to be there with them round the clock, you can't leave them with a neighbour/friend/relative while you nip to work etc... it's all done through Scottish Disclosure & if your not registered through them with the charity, then you can't look after the kids.

the only real time I'll have now is when I'm off work, during the school summer holidays - so hopefully all being well we'll have another 2 kids to stay in summer 07 (think we might opt for girls this time)

but,  meantime I/we are always going to be available as a support family whenever any kids are here
